FFK compares COVID19 testing in Nigeria with Ghana, South Africa, says many Nigerians are likely to positive
The former Minister of Aviation and Culture, Femi Fani-Kayode has this morning taken to his verified Twitter account @realFFK to compare the rate at which testings for the Coronavirus is taking place in Nigeria, with the rate at which testings are being done in Ghana and South Africa.
Recall that yesterday, the Punch Newspaper wrote that only about 5000 Nigerians have been tested for the Coronavirus, as against Ghana's thirty seven thousand, nine and fifty four testings and South Africa's eighty thousand and eighty five.
Thus, considering Nigeria's over 200 million population, this figure is no doubt discouraging; moreso, when there are only a few testing Coronavirus units in Nigeria. And so, reacting to this, the former spokesman to former president Olusegun Obasanjo, Femi Fani-Kayode has stated that by implication, this means that many more Nigerians may be positive without even knowing it:
According to @MobilePunch only 5000 out of a population of 200 million Nigerians have been tested for Covid 19. This means that far many more people may have the coronavirus in our country than we think. 37,000 & 80,000 have been tested in Ghana and South Africa respectively.
He however tempered this statement by reminding Nigerians that 90% of infected patients are asymptomatic while only 10% show symptoms and therefore people should not panic:
90% of those that are infected with coronavirus are asymptomatic. This means that they don't even know that they have the disease because they do not show any symptoms.Only 10% of those infected show symptoms & only 1% of those that do end up dying. Stop the panic but stay safe!
