Happened: Buhari please pay each Nigerian 50k to stay at home, hunger will kill people – Yul Edochie

Nigerian actor, Yul Edochie has expressed his concerns over the initial 14 days Lockdown the Federal Government has imposed on residents of Lagos, Ogun State and the Federal Capital Territory.
Shortly after the order was made, the actor cum politician expressed his concerns for the vulnerable population of the country who seem to be the most affected by the lockdown as their daily livelihoods have been stripped from them.
Taking to his Twitter account, he beseeched President Buhari to activate stimulus packages for Nigerians as they are made to stay at home for 2 weeks. He wrote:
”Dear President @MBuhari Pls provide an economic relief package for Nigerians, even if it’s 50k each, it will go a long way. People are hungry, locked down with no money, begging left, right & centre. With the situation like this, it’ll be difficult to keep people at home.“

Know it! BREAKING : We should not expect anything good from an Oshiomhole-led national chairmanship of APC

“If Obaseki was a good politician, what is expected of him is to go from leader to leader, and beg. Obaseki should not be too big to beg. Without our votes, Obaseki cannot be governor. That is the truth. That Obaseki is the governor today is because all of us came together to say we were going to vote for him.
“For your information, to tell you how hard it is to win elections in Edo State, during the last presidential election, Obaseki lost his unit, ward, local council area, his House of Representatives constituency seat and lost his Edo South Senatorial District seat even as a sitting governor.
“For me, there can only be reconciliation if the governor is humble enough to go to the critical stakeholders and beg them. It is only then we would see if we could find a place in our heart to forgive him of all his transgressions.”
Those were the words of Henry Idahagbon, a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and member, Edo Peoples Movement (EPM), a pressure group in the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress APC), working to ensure Governor Obaseki does not secure second term ticket at the party primaries coming up in June this year.
But one of the governor’s men, Charles Idahosa was still beating his chest that Obaseki’s second term ticket was not negotiable, saying there is nothing like reconciliation. He said though they (the governor and his supporters) had accepted the reconciliation committee, there is nothing to reconcile, because Oshiomhole is the problem of APC in the 36 states.
“We are waiting for the National Reconciliation Committee and ready to listen to the team. I will advise that the easiest way to solve the job of the committee is for Oshiomhole to resign or let them fire him. That will bring peace in the 36 states of the federation in the interest of the party.
“We should not expect anything good from an Oshiomhole-led national chairmanship of APC. You can see the trouble Oshiomhole has caused APC nationwide. People are protesting in APC secretariat in Abuja, and the next thing they say it is Obaseki. Everything that is not in their favour is Obaseki.”

Just in Kenya: COVID-19 - Trans Nzoia Pastor, 20 Faithful Arrested

Police in Trans Nzoia on Sunday arrested a pastor and 20 faithful for violating the government's order banning public gatherings in a bid to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Saboti Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner, Khalif Abdulai said the police sprang into action after a tip off from the public.

Mr Abdulai said Pastor Benard Tali and the faithful are in police custody and will be charged with violating provisions of Public Health Act.

"We found service ongoing, consequently I and the security team led by the OCS arrested the presiding pastor and congregation numbering 20 and they are in police custody," he said.

Meanwhile, in Kwanza a pastor - Benson Kiptoo, his assistants - Florence Moraa and six faithful were also arrested for going against presidential directives.
"Other members of the church managed to escape as operation is still ongoing to monitor any social gathering," said Trans Nzoia County Police Commander Ayub Ali.

A few days ago, the government suspended all public gatherings in the country after the first case of coronavirus was confirmed in the country.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said that the suspension is a way of preventing further spread of the virus.

Info: Need to Prepare for Another Cycle’: Top US Scientist Says Coronavirus Could Become Seasonal

Anthony Fauci, who leads research into infectious diseases at the National Institutes of Health, said the virus was beginning to take root in the southern hemisphere, where winter is on its way.

Washington:There is a strong chance the new coronavirus could return in seasonal cycles, a senior US scientist said Wednesday, underscoring the urgent need to find a vaccine and effective treatments.

Anthony Fauci, who leads research into infectious diseases at the National Institutes of Health, told a briefing the virus was beginning to take root in the southern hemisphere, where winter is on its way.

“What we're starting to see now... in southern Africa and in the southern hemisphere countries, is that we're having cases that are appearing as they go into their winter season," he said.

"And if, in fact, they have a substantial outbreak, it will be inevitable that we need to be prepared that we'll get a cycle around the second time.

"It totally emphasises the need to do what we're doing in developing a vaccine, testing it quickly and trying to get it ready so that we'll have a vaccine available for that next cycle."

There are currently two vaccines that have entered human trials -- one in the US and one in China -- and they could be a year to a year-and-a-half away from deployment.

Treatments are also being investigated -- some new drugs and others that have been repurposed, including the antimalarials chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine.
"I know we'll be successful in putting this down now, but we really need to be prepared for another cycle," Fauci concluded.

Fauci's comments suggesting the virus does better in colder weather than it does in hot and humid conditions follows a recent Chinese research paper -- still preliminary and awaiting peer-review -- that reached the same conclusion.

The reasons are thought to include that respiratory droplets remain airborne for longer in colder weather, and that cold weather weakens immunity.

Another potential reason is that viruses degrade more quickly on hotter surfaces, possibly because a protective layer of fat that envelops them dries out quicker.
But reduced infection rate does not mean the virus gets eliminated -- Australia has had almost 2,500 confirmed cases and 8 deaths, for example.
